Royal Canin has presented the Pet Welcome Update (Android / iOS), a project launched by the pet food company two years ago. It is an initiative that consists of a website and two apps, where dog and cat owners can geolocate public and private places to go with their four-legged friends.
One of the main problems in Spain regarding our furry friends is the lack of knowledge of the owners of restaurants, hotels and other businesses about the law that regulates the access of pets to these establishments. That is why Royal Canin decided to develop this app that tells you, wherever you are, where you can go accompanied by them.
To date the application has more than 52,000 downloads, and in it you can consult the more than 17,000 registered establishments, which are located mainly in Barcelona, Madrid and Zaragoza; Spanish cities plus pet friendlies.
Since the idea was launched in 2013, both the web and apps have recently been transformed so that they are simple, clear and accessible to users.
Both have recently included search filters, featured headings, and have incorporated many of the suggestions they have received from users.
Among the latter – and the most demanded by owners of dogs and cats, the system now allows private individuals to inform the Royal Canin team about pet friendly places they know. In this way, after the prior and rigorous verification of said establishment, it is included in the database without the need for the owner to register.
Other great news has been the increase in interaction, thanks to the inclusion of the famous Share buttons. Likewise, the social dimension of the platform has been expanded by including a private area where both locals and pet owners can customize their profile.
Although there are still issues to improve, the application of Welcome Pets is a must have for those citizens with cat and dog friends.
However, it is true that greater rigor in the monitoring of premises in the face of changes in ownership or policies; the inclusion of a small regulation on Spanish regulations; or the possibility, not only to score with stars, but to add comments by users, would be interesting aspects to incorporate into the platform.
